What is home insurance?

Home insurance covers your property against damage. Think of damage from fire, storm or burglary. Everything that is permanently attached to your house (such as the walls, the roof and a fitted kitchen) is included in the cover. Glass damage can be added as an extra.

Please note

Damage caused by war, earthquakes or flooding is usually excluded from cover.

Home insurance is not required by law. But if you take out a mortgage, it is almost always required by the bank or lender. They want to be sure your property is properly insured.

Frequently asked questions

Is home insurance compulsory?
Not by law. But if you have a mortgage, the bank or lender will almost always require your property to be insured.
What is the difference between home and contents insurance?
Home insurance covers everything that is permanently attached to your house (walls, roof, kitchen). Contents insurance covers your movable belongings, such as furniture and electronics.
Can I add glass cover separately?
Yes. With most insurers you can add glass cover as an extra to your home insurance.
How is the rebuild value determined?
The rebuild value is the amount needed to rebuild your property. We will help you set this value correctly, so you are neither over- nor under-insured.
Can the advice meeting take place at my home?
Certainly. You are welcome at our office in The Hague, but we are also happy to come to you.
